OK — have been messing about with this thing for about a few months now and I keep coming back, so thought I’d write something up since a mate asked me last week. Am UK based, mainly do football and horses, small stakes, so take it how you like.
What got me on it was actually a bit daft — I never could get my head round what an each way payout actually came to once you get five places instead of three. I used to just guess and get a shock. Now punch the numbers in before every slip, even a simple single bet.
The single bet calculator is the bit I open most — you drop in the price and your stake and it spits out returns with no faffing, fractions or decimals. It also handles the fiddly ones — acca and treble maths, lucky 15s, patents and yankees, which is where I’d always mess it up. The thing that actually made a difference is the more serious bits. There’s an probability calculator and it makes obvious how much the bookie’s taking, and there’s the kelly calculator — I stick to fractional kelly because full kelly is far too aggressive. The dutching one is decent if I’m splitting a race.
Not all sunshine though. The interface is pretty plain — not much flash, which honestly I don’t mind but some will. On my phone it works but the bigger tables need a bit of scrolling. Also there’s nothing on the app store, it’s a website and that’s it — slight shame but worth saying.
Right, that’s me. Costs nowt, not plastered in adverts, does what it says. If anyone still works out returns on a calculator app, give it a go — it’s saved me plenty of dumb bets I’d have regretted.
